Abstract

The purpose of the study is to analyze modern views on the etiology, pathogenesis and morphology of rheumatoid arthritis, as well as its complications. The following databases were used to write the review: «PubMed», «Google Scholar», «eLibrary»; electronic portals about medicine and biology with the use of keywords in the search: rheumatoid arthritis, joint pathology, autoimmune diseases, epidemiology of rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic diseases. The article reflects modern ideas about the etiology and risk factors of rheumatoid arthritis, the pathogenesis of this disease, and its complications. The issues of pathomorphology, treatment and prevention at the present stage are touched upon. In conclusion, the data obtained during the analysis of scientific literature are briefly reflected, and the social and medical significance of rheumatoid arthritis at the present time is noted.
